"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water."
Frequently Asked Questions
I feel as though I have lost my faith, am I allowed in the program?
Absolutely! One of the goals of God's Recovery Light is to help those whose faith has been challenged during times of addiction and alcoholism and teach them about God's love all over again. The approach is gentle and not meant to bombard people who are not ready to accept God fully back into their lives, but we see it as a gradual process. Our treatment tracks are individualized and can be changed to fit the needs of each and every one of our clients.
Are the 12 steps and Christianity meant to go together?
The 12-step program of Alcoholics Anonymous was created by good Christians looking for a way to help themselves and others recover from alcoholism. In the beginning of the program there was more mention of God as we understand Him (meaning rhetoric about Jesus, the Lord, etc), however since their main goal was to help as many struggling alcoholics first and spread the word of God second, the language was changed in order to reach the greatest number of people believers and non-believers. The 12 steps are suggestions that coincide with many of the teachings of Christianity and can be interpreted so that they compliment each other.
How do I help a loved one that is not quite ready to get help?
One of the best methods for someone that is not ready to stop abusing substances or cannot admit there is a problem is the use of an intervention. Crisis interventions and drug alcohol interventions are increasingly popular and effective when it comes to treating individuals in denial. An intervention is when an individual is confronted by family members and friends about the destructiveness of his or her behavior and is convinced to try treatment as an alterative to their self-sabotaging lifestyle.
How long is your treatment program?
Our treatment programs vary in length depending on the need of the client. Inpatient treatment as well as outpatient treatment is available. Aftercare programs and sober living environments are effective compliments to our inpatient and outpatient treatment programs.
